WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle says FBI evidence that Army scientist Bruce Ivins was responsible for the 2001 anthrax attacks is convincing, but he is not completely persuaded that the investigation focused on the right person.
In an interview Monday, Daschle praised the investigation and said an FBI briefing last week was “complete and persuasive.” Still, he says, there are some open questions. He said the evidence should be scientifically reviewed.
One of the anthrax-laced letters was mailed to Daschle’s office.
The former senator’s remarks came the same day the FBI was briefing journalists on the scientific data that led them to Ivins, who killed himself as prosecutors prepared to charge him as the lone anthrax killer.
